STATEMENT

Haunting, evocative, ethereal and sometimes eerie, Nancy's work synthesizes her background in photography and painting to reveal a confluence of two inspirations: surrealism and the classical Greek form. Through her camera she seeks a present-day narrative for the ruins and fragments of ancient art, which we now experience out of time and place, opening them to personal interpretation.

Her photographs focus on the human figure. Models and dancers are juxtaposed with the remnants of classical statues and architecture to which she is drawn, mesmerized by the beauty and energy they still retain. Her photographic technique emphasizes the dynamics of movement and structure that the Greeks were first to bring to figurative art and boldly redefines our conception of it. Images are layered, the figure at times blurred, so that a surreal, painterly quality emerges, along with a sense that something fleeting and mysterious has been captured. A mystery prevails but the impact is visceral.

Archival-quality giclee prints (pigment inks on Hahnmuhle rag paper) are produced
in editions of nine with a limited edition of five for larger prints. Information upon request.
